?? About stereo install, on an 09 EGS.
As September rolls along, thoughts of winter mods flood my head.
I have been thinking about a stereo system for my Glide. As stated, it's a 2009 Electra Glide Standard.
Now, what I'm wondering is; as I go along with an install (suggestions for the best system under $450 would be great) are these just plug and play?
Is my bike already wired for a system?
Do I need to consider what system to purchase in order for the thumb controls to work?
Any and all info is surely to be appreciated.

it only gets worse!
you'll be hard pressed to find a plug and play system in the aftermarket world. Most of the "motorcycle friendly" systems are plug and play but they come at a premium and a cost. The premium is high-dollar, the cost is lack of performance.
yes sir it should already be wired for at least 2 fairing speakers, and to determine if wiring is there for handlebar controls simply look at your handlebars for audio controls. if they are there, then the wiring is there. If you go with an aftermarket head unit (NON HD/HK) then you'll need a control module from either biketronics or hawg-wired to make your handlebar controls work.
if you go with an HD head unit (you can find these used on the forum or eBay) then it will be 100% plug and play. Just add fairing speakers and you're good to go. make sure you get a recent headunit (something newer than 2006). then your speakers will need to be 2 ohm speakers such as the polk audio MM651
Any and all info is surely to be appreciated.

Thanks...
Now I've read a lot about Biketronics, are the package deals worth getting, or is it better to piece your own system together?
I'm thinking about this one...

eyeball kid. Are you wanting to stick with CD or do you want full iPod integration?
If iPod i'd switch the headunit to the MS60 Marine iPod
I would definitely upgrade the fairing speakers to the Titan II 7.1"
The BT2180 is a great little amp but my only reservations to BT amps is they have no gain controls.
You want the additional Sony wiring harness to make it plug and play @ $15
This combo will run you right at $1000
If you went elsewhere for an amp and head unit then it would go something like this.
Sony MS60 - Amazon = $145
Rockford PBR300x2 Amp - Amazon = $145 free shipping
Titan II 7.1" - Biketronics - $249
BT1002 Install Kit - Biketronics - $198
Sony Wiring Harness - Biketronics - $15
BT87 Antenna - Biketronics - $40
This route will set you back roughly $800
