I swapped my original 05' Harley "Radio Sound" to a new HK head unit with no problems plug and play. Then I sold that and now Im running a Sony head unit. I would say its not worth the extra money look into a good aftermarket head unit like a sony or some others will chime in. A good aftermarket head unit is the way to go for future audio upgrades and a much cleaner sound plus usually not as exspensive as a HK. just my 2 cents

to get the automatic volume control on the new stocker, you'll need to browse into the radio diagnostics for the speed control and change the setting. Can't remember from and to but there are only 2 settings, 1 and 2. whichever it's on change it to the other for analog operation of your AVC

98-05 use the "High" setting, everything newer is "Low".

The internal AVC setting is only programmable for the 04 and 05 bikes. They use a digital signal. 03 and older will require the radio being flashed to an analog signal.

98-05 use the high setting. (but 98-03 is analog and needs to be flashed)
06-13 use the J1850 setting
