This is probably too late but....
I just installed a line level convertor like the PAC model ( mine is from AXXCES).
I didnt have any guidence or directions either... Here is what I did. I set headunit bass and treble to neutral/off, amp gains to minimum, and the AXXESS (PAC) gains to minimum (which was effectively 'OFF' on my unit).
Turn on the system, set headunit to 75% volume and play music (I used a J&M test CD that came with my speakers) with dynamics. I turned the AXXESS (PAC) gains up listening for distortion. I heard none even at max gain so I decided to back the gain off a little and set the rest of the gains per UltraNutZ's recommended setup procedure.
It worked for me!!
