Default Even just a little better, would be better

My 99 Electra glide classic has the factory installed sound system still in it. And it is not very good to say the least. It works as designed, although the speakers are pretty much toast, but they work.

I have a little 40wx2 Jensen amp laying around that still works. It makes 15w RMS, 40w peak. Would adding that amp to what I have be an improvement, or a waste of time? Maybe put in some new speakers while it is apart? I am not after a killer sound system, just one that works well.

Put that amp in and it does sound better. Got a set of Polk 6.5" speakers on the way. I wonder what the output of the HK really is? I would not think it is more than 40 watts peak?

Got the Polk DB651 6.5" speakers installed with Dragonfly adapter rings. The system sounds much better, even with a small 40 watt amp. The Polks want a bigger amp. But for now I am happy. I can at least hear the tunes on the highway. Got the speakers on Amazon for a total of $25. With the rings I have all of $60 in this system.

Now I have to figure out what to do about the cracked fairing braces behind the bat wing? Another thread.

Here's a link to Ragan Fab Works, they make an excellent repair kit for broken fairing braces.

the factory speakers are very small and cheap.the magnets on the back of them are the size of a couple quarters stacked up.. just changing them would be a huge improvement. with good speakers and an amp, you would get pretty good sound.

All I had was SE254 and the Fat Cat 2:1.. had to finally get rid of it because it was deafening at highway speeds..
