Default Polk 651MM Wiring HELP!!

Just installed some Polk 651MM's in a 2008 UC faring with HK stock radio and no amp. Used the polyfill too. They sound really BAD. Not near as clear at higher volume as my 5 1/4 GTO528 JBL's. Terrible distortion at high volume. I have to turn them up to 3/4 max volume to even hear them on the road. I wired the crossovers in during the install. Do I need the crossovers? I realize I need an amp but, shouldn't they sound better than the JBL's. What did I do wrong.

did you wire the crossovers like Ultranutz' directions in the step X step instructions in the above sticky thread?

those crossovers are to be wired as such in your configuration.

On the bottom of the each crossover is 1 set of wires, black and black/white stripe.
On the top of the crossover is 2 sets of wires, 1 for tweeter, 1 for woofer. Make sure these are where they're supposed to be. The connectors on the ends tell you where they go unless you force them on the speaker connections.

Now..
The right crossover bottom black/white wire goes to the existing bike right speaker wire gray/red
The right crossover bottom black wire goes to the existing bike right speaker wire light green/black
The left crossover bottom black/white wire goes to the existing bike left speaker wire white/orange
The left crossover bottom black wire goes to the existing bike left speaker wire light green/white

If you've got these connected improperly, the speakers are being run out of phase which means they will sound exactly as you described; like crap...
