GP/UN/Sl33py... What say you.... I know GP swears by these http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAu...FQfl7AodNDoAYg

What other speakers can get the job done... I listen to all types of music (top 40-underground rap)

And goooooooooo!

I'd defer to UN as he's tried the most combo's. The Pioneer TS-6902R seems to be a winner (especially for the $). As GP has been telling us all along...

Size 6" x 9"
Max. Music Power (Nominal) 360 W (80 W)
Cone Material Dual Layer IMX Aramid-Basalt
Frequency Response 28 Hz to 30 kHz
Sensitivity (1 W/1 m) 90 dB
Impedance 4 Ω
Crossover Frequency 2,800 Hz
Mounting Depth 3-1/2"
Cut-Out Dimensions 6" x 8-5/8"
As always - you'll want to give them some power to get the best out of them.

The other main contenders are:

Polk MM691 Polk MM691
~$140
Biketronics 479 ~$400-450'ish (if you need CVO adapters)

Just found a nice spec'd Kicker too:
Kicker 40CS6934 ~$100

(looks like a big improvement over the previous DS693 in RMS handling (on paper) 70w RMS now 150w RMS.)

Haven't heard them, but interesting.

JL has some that look good (i'm a JL fan, just $$ for everything w/ a "JL" on it!).

I think a couple folks are also running some Infinity's.

So many options! The MM's and new Pioneers are i think the most common here. Especially for the $.

5-way... geez.. what's next...

Those TS-D6902R 6x9s are a great speaker with a good bottom end. I've tried the Polks, BT479 (HAT), Cadence subs, and this Pioneer model. All sound great, all have quite different characteristics in their sound quality. In no certain order here's my thoughts. All speakers work very well in the saddlebag lid environment (air space) when the bags are filled or empty. The one thing I will highly recommend if you go to 6x9 lids is either get the HD saddlebag liners (I have these) or use a fairly heavyweight material to line the bags to prevent the ABS from flexing and causing sound wave distortion.

Pioneer TS-D6902R - very good bottom end (bass) and very defined mids and highs. You need at least 100w per speaker to get the most out of these. Tone Loc's Wild Thing never sounded so good on a bike.
Polk MM691 - not so great on the bottom end but the midbass, mids, and highs are tremendous. You'll need at least 75w per speaker to get the most out of these.
Cadence CVLW69 - good midbass driver but severely lacks bottom end regardless of how much power you put on them. Not worth the effort.
BT479 - another very good 6x9 with very well defined mids and highs. HAT/Biketronics did an excellent job with these. The very bottom end, roughly 80hz and below is simply not there.

The Pioneer TS-D6902R's don't appear to be a Marine speaker, how do they handle rain?

Ride faster and the rain won't catch ya!

Aramid Fiber is similar in nature to Kevlar. Armid Fiber bags are sold all over the world for kayakers and canooers.

Marine speakers suck... all there is to it. They don't have no where near the sound quality of a normal speaker. Polk speakers are all marine certified however with that said, they are just as suspectible to water intrusion as any other speaker is. NONE are waterproof, period.

Definitely no complaints about the mm691's unless you want ultimate bass. You can't hear the bass much at speed anyways. The best $150 I spent on the bike yet.
