I didn't use foam, but bought a roll of Polyfil Batting (the stuff used inside of quilts). That's probably not the exact product I found, but something similar for about $5 at Wal-Mart.

It worked out great! I sure don't want to pull it back out, so either let me pay you for it or I'll ride over to Houston with a case of beer... or both!
I went with a Sony MEX-BT3000P CD receiver (mostly because it had bluetooth and was on clearance for about $80 at BestBuy.com), the Sony XM tuner, Biketronics kit, and 4 of your favorite Polks.
The O'scope came in handy to set the amplifier gains. I made a CD with the test tone that you posted somewhere. Unhooked the speaker wire connecter at the amp and hooked the O'scope to the radio output. Then turned the volume up until I could get the biggest sine wave with no distortion (about 44 out of 50 on my radio). Moved the probe to the speaker +terminal and turned the amplifier gain to get the maximum undistorted signal (which didn't take much. If 7 o'clock was minimum, I think I just got to about 10 o'clock.
After I put it back together it occurred to me that it might be better to have the bike running or on a battery charger when setting the gains. Setting them while just on battery may cause the amp to clip sooner than when at full running voltage.
I went very simple on the mount. I just used outdoor-type hook and loop on the fairing braces and on the amp, and used the same stuff to put the XM receiver on top of the amp, then the XM antenna on top of that. The XM signal is fine. My only problem is very minor. The way I routed the wire harness prevents the fairing from fitting perfectly around the windshield. I need to pull the fairing back off and do better before I ride in a big rain. In fact, I may also put a bead of silicon caulk along there.
Your step-by-step installation instructions helped a lot, UltraNutZ. Thank you for all you do here, sir!

And to further clarify... you want the 100% polyester Poly-Fil batting. I don't believe you want the cotton / polyester blend batting. The cotton would absorb and retain moisture.
