Default Amp Question

2007 FLHX - DSX-S300BTX - J&M 250 x 2 - (2) Polk MM651 - HogPro Tweeter Pod

Thank you Ultra for your advice on speakers...loving the Polk's!

I am looking to replace the amp now and I am undecided between the Soundstream and Rockford Fosgate.

I am running fairing speakers only...do not run lowers...not interested in saddlebag speakers.

I also have the Biketronics retro radio install kit and the HogPro tweeter pod.

The questions I have for you Sir:
1. Which amp do you recommend for my setup?
2. Would you please provide step-by-step instructions?

Thanks for all your help!

which speakers did you have previously?

Also I would go for the RF PBR300x2 amp for this setup. I will get you some instructions in a few...

actually your setup will be fairly easy with not much wiring to do because of the RCA outputs on the head unit and the fact that you already have power run with the J&M harness. Unless you want to change the harness to keep with the J&M amp.

If you want to run power;
  • Loosen 2 front bolts on tank
  • remove 2 rear bolts on tank
  • prop back of tank up so you can fish the power wire from the fairing to the battery under the tank
  • Run your 10ga power wire to the battery location and put a fuse holder on it with a 25A fuse. DO NOT PUT FUSE IN YET. Connect the other end to the RF terminal block
  • run your ground wire and either connect to the front of the triple tree if available or to a good solid ground elsewhere. Make sure to scrape off any paint to make a solid ground metal to metal then touch it up with rustoleum after youv'e made your connection. Connect the other end to the RF terminal block
  • on your Sony head unit is a blue/white wire. this needs to be connected to the REM on the RF terminal block.
  • Run your RCA cables from either the front or rear of the radio, makes no difference (don't use sub outputs) to the amp RCA inputs.
  • Connect your black/white wire on your left crossover to RF white wire.
  • Connect your black wire on your left crossover to RF white/black wire
  • Connect your black/white wire on right crossover to RF grey wire
  • Connect your black wire on right crossover to RF grey/black wire.
  • Get some heavy duty velcro or doublestick tape and mount your amp to the top of your radio. Velcro IMO is better.
  • Plug the terminal block for power into amp and plug speaker wire plug into amp
  • On your radio (you will lose all previously stored settings/clock settings/presets) I highly suggest you remove the face, find the reset button and press it for 3 seconds to clear the radio of ALL settings. This assures you of flat sound enhancement settings on the radio. There are many on this radio and this is CRUCIAL to setting your gains properly.
  • make sure your amp's crossover is set to AP and that the gain is turned all the way down (counterclockwise)
  • put a good CD in and turn radio up until you hear distortion then back it down til you don't hear distortion
  • now turn your gain up until you hear distortion and then back it down til you don't hear distortion
  • gains are set
  • wrap the fairing speakers with polyfil like a big white cotton ball and button up the fairing
  • enjoy your tunes.
