great combination here! That PBR300x2 is a nice amp and worth every penny you pay for it.

stay away from the pbr300x4. heat issues, limitations on what you can install for speakers. Don't get why RF is still even selling these with the known issues they have with them.

And yes I agree RF has been around for a long time but so has Soundstream.. they emerged into the mainstream market less than 18 months apart back in the early 80s.

But as someone mentioned above, there are FM interference issues with the SS amps among MANY other top brand names because of the switching power supply design in the Class D amps. Check out the audio forum.. Lots of info there...

Default my 2 cents

I've got a 300x 4 w/ Focal components in the batwing (tweeters in the gauge holes) and Focals in the lowers and it kicks you know what. A lot of people have had problems with the RF's and if I had it to do over I might go with a Soundstream or ARC, but so far mine's been trouble free and sounds as good as any system I've actually heard in person.

always a pleasure to hear the good with the bad. Simply put, this particular amp, some get good ones, some get bad ones. 3 in a row for me was all it took...

I was happy with my RF PBR300X4 and 4 T165 RF speakers. Only reason I pulled it was because I wanted to add bag lids and add more speakers. The SoundStream 4.520D is a great little amp with six speakers hooked to it. I read all the bad stuff about the RF 4 channel amp, but never had any issues.

Default FG PB300x4

I have a 2010 FLHTC which has two speakers in the fairing just like yours. I have the Fosgate Amp sitting on top of the radio with about a 1/4" gap between them. There are a lot of reports that the Fosgate over heats, I believe the trouble with that is the high pass lead in to the amp, brings in more juice causing it to clip and over heat. I used a "High to Low" filter off the radio wires, patched into the Amp. Gain set at 5. I have not had any problems since the switch.

I have tried a few different speakers, (Sony SR 60's & JL Audio C2X) and I have found the Hertz HCX 165 to be the best sound I have heard, even from any ones else bike. Their about $250.00 (ABT.COM) You need to get adapters to fit the 6.5" speakers into the fairing, very easy to install just a couple of screws.

Just a bit of advice here, after all is done, before putting the fairing back on take a short ride and listen, you might have to make an adjustment on the gain, better to find out now than after you put the fairing on.

And don't forget to wrap your speakers with Polyfil! Check out the Audio forum for more information.

The heat issues are not with the PBR300x2, but the PBR300x4 only and the high level inputs do not contribute to that. It's the way the heat sinks /outputs combination internal to the amp (which are different between the two amps) are not capable of dissipating heat properly. A lot of people get good ones that have no issues with them, a lot get bad ones.

once you set your gains, there should be no reason to adjust them again unless you change any item within your system. You can set them with a DMM as outlined in the sticky or you can set them by ear.

Can the PBR 300x2 be bridged? Thinking I saw on RF's website that it cannot. True?

yes it can be bridged into a single mono channel @ 4 ohms and above only. At 4 ohms it is capable of pumping out 300w x1
