With the stock whip antenna, you should get really good reception. Make sure it's plugged in securely to the back of the radio. Do you have an amp? If so, sometimes they can cause reception issues.
Yes, something sounds wrong here. I use a stock antenna and have great reception. I've heard bad reviews about the shorties and the hidden antennas that go inside the fairing, but that's about it. Something must be wrong with your connections.

100% agree. shorties and in-fairing antennas suck.. all there is to it.
On a side note Jeff, is that pic in your avatar going through the needles in Custer State Park?
Even with firing antenna or shorty's it shouldn't be that bad...check the ground...asnd the push in the connector real snug on the back of the radio...Mine sucked with the tall whips and it was the tour pack braket that was broken and was compromising the ground...
The reception is fine when ur close to a metropolitan area. Outside of that it sucks. My friend has a brand new one and same complaints. I've seen posts about the powered antennas? I took mine back to the dealer to check connections right after buying it. They were gonna get me a new radio that was 2 yrs ago lol
I hear ya. did it for the first time this past year and I'll never do it again during the rally again either. Literally took us about 3 hours to get through there...
