Default My Bagger Audio Project

This site has helped design my system for my 2010 Street glide.
I am sure there are better deals out there but I needed to pull the pin sometime. My plans are to add two 6x9s to my hard bags in the near future.
I have just ordered the following.

I have no experience in bike audio, I am just having fun learning from the fine people on this site. I hope this helps a few that might be struggling to pull the pin like myself.

My thanks goes out to UltraNutZ and many fine people contributing on this site.
I will post my progress when I do the install.

Great details. Can you add some notes on why you chose the parts vs J&M with stock HK? Also would like details of if you are integrating iPhone/iPod?

Great setup stressed350 but might I make a couple of suggestions:

Instead of using the DB651 speakers in the fairing, you'll be much more pleased with the MM651 speakers for a couple of reasons.
1.) they're a much cleaner and crisper sounding speaker
2.) they are 2 ohm speakers to match the amp resulting in better output power from the amp
3.) better power handling capabilities

As for the 350D amp, if you're going to add lid speakers I would stick with what you ordered in the 520D. And make sure that you use a 2 ohm speaker in the lids as well. I just finished installing my MM691 speakers in the Cycle Sounds lids yesterday and the sound difference is absolutely tremendous.

Is that head unit weather resistant far as getting water on it when washing and riding in the rain couldn't find it in the specs

no head unit is water proof or water resistant. Think about it for a sec. What is commonly referred to as "Marine Grade" in audio components (head units, amps, electronic crossovers, etc.) is nothing more than a conformal coating on the circuit board(s). IMO the last thing you need to worry about is the circuit boards internal to an almost completely sealed unit to begin with. The face of the radio is where water penetration will be most susceptible. Oxidized contacts, water in the LED face, etc. No radio that's out there currently (at least until Dragonfly Cycle Concepts releases their IP66 rated head unit) has the ability to stop water penetration into the face and that INCLUDES the HD stock radios. Call Iron Cross and talk to Tony about that one.

The bottom line is you needn't worry about the idiotic nomenclature of "Marine Grade" and buy what you want. Whatever it is will be 1/10th the cost of an HD radio that isn't worth the metal housing it's fabricated in. When you buy your aftermarket radio, get a rain shield from Biketronics, Hawg-Wired, etc. and USE IT. My 09 Ultra had a Sony DSX-S310BTX head unit in it for over 2 years. Rode through rain many a times and never a problem with the unit. Course it all boils down to common sense. If you're going to spray water on it while washing, or you're in a heavy down pour, put the rain shield on!

All of this audio stuff is common sense usage from the head unit to the speakers to the amps.

I understand what your saying ultra makes perfect sense I know no electronics are water proof I guess I should have stated can it handle a little moisture getting on the face ( that question is answered) but a shield would be the best thing does the shield remove easily and go on easily. Not trying to hijack your thread stressed 350 just trying to get some clarification thank you for putting this up again it sure has led me in a good direction and helped me ask some questions I think are relevant to what I am wanting to do also.

You should have went with the MM651's. The DB651's won't stand up to the power the SS 4.520 puts out per channel.

like I said before.. I've run the 310 on my 09 for over 2 years and rode through plenty of rain without the shield on and nary a problem with the unit. Most aftermarket head units will be this way mainly because of the way the fairing is shaped. When you're moving, there's not much of a chance of water getting on the inside face of the fairing. And if it's raining that bad, pull over and put the shield on.

The shield is a plastic formed shield that fits tightly and perfectly into the radio cutout in the fairing itself. You slip it on and you slip it off, easy as that.
