Kenwood BT952HD and Biketronics 1002 issue
I started the HU upgrade on my 06' Ultra today. Reading the advice here on HD forums, I decided on the Sony S310bt, but can not find one locally here in Lasvegas, but found an awesome deal on a Kenwood BT952HD. I really like the Kenwood deck, but I have the biketronics 1002 module. Chances are, some of you here may already know my dilema. The BT1002 has a 3.5mm jack for our hand controls to plug directly into most of the newer Sony hu's.
When out shopping for the Sony (cant find locally), I did run into the kenwood as an open box special (no remote or manual) for 70% off retail. The sales rep helping me mentioned that Kenwood also uses the 3.5 jack for controls. Upon downloading the manual when I returned home... that jack in the rear of the deck is for AUX, not hand controls and the Kenwood uses a single wire connection, tagged "Steering controls". Open box also means store credit only if returned, which will not do me much good considering they dont have the Sony I want...
My question is:
1) What signal is the BT1002 sending out to the stereo, can it be adapted (via 3.5mm breakout from radio shack) to the single wire input for the Kenwood deck?
2) What is the Kenwood looking for in signal? Does it need to be Kenwood specific?
3) I understand the standard steering wheel controls use different ressistances for the different functions. Im sure radio shack has the several resistors available. Has anyone attemted this mock-up? Not too enthused about this idea!!

Thanks to the 3 of you for the responses! I've been to the biketronics site several times and the product photo for the 1005 module still had the 3.5 mm plug so I assumed it also wouldn't work. So now armed with the advise for you I will call them tomorrow and look into an exchange and or continue to look for the Sony s310btx. I like the idea of the Sony hiding my iphone4 and charging it at the same time. We will see which situation pans out first
Thank again all!!!
