Default I lost Hdforum. Need help

Help with this ..

I have this equipment..

HD radio
RF BRT 300x2 punch amp
Polyglass 6.5 focal 165cvx speakers 4ohm
hog tunes tweeters for fairing

I have the left and right side speakers wired in from the input.

On the speaker connection i have the left/right speakers and left/right tweeters wired together going to the speakers hog tunes tweeters.

Ground to the frame and power straight to battery.
gain is at 5 and frequency about half.

Problem

worked fine then for a day, then it would not play at high volumes..only real low cant hear unless im at idle.

is it because i need to wire the tweeters into the input.. I have no clue on what to do .leaving for Daytona Wed. Any tips

I think Oldhippie is right.

Your RF amp is only rated for 4 ohms. I'm guessing that the Hogtunes tweeters are only 2 ohm or less. Wiring the Focals and Hogtunes together in parallel will put less than 3 ohms load to the amp total (or about 1.5 ohm per channel), which it isn't rated for. Driven hard, the amp will fry itself pretty fast.

I'd disconnect the amp and drive the Focals alone with the head unit to start.

ETA: I don't know what the HD radio is rated for (my 06 was 8 ohms), but you may be able to wire the tweeters and woofers in series so the head unit sees about 6 ohms. It may not be loud though.

Ive been playing with it and figured it out .The amp is good it comes on. I started disconecting speakers. The left side speaker will play and does good. The right side speaker as i turned it up it starts to pop and turn off. I took the right speaker out and hooked it up to the left side terminals and it cut off as I turned it up.. Im thinking may be bad speaker short in it..or is it blown, it will play at low volumes and sounds good.

So I cant hook up tweeter pods with it, if i can what do I need.
I couldnt find the tweeter pods ohms..I checked internet if yall happen across it send me link. Will be shoping tomorrow for new speakers locally..Bought the last pair from sonic electronis

Thanks for replies

If you wanted to use the tweeters, get a set of 2 ohm speakers and wire them in series with the tweeters.

ok your speaker configuration is correct sir. The Amp is rated @ 2ohms so it will handle what you have connected to it. If you moved speaker to opposite side of amp and the problem moved with the speaker, then you are 100% correct in your thought process that you lost a speaker. When that voice coil heats up, it shorts and is causing the issues you're seeing. Contact your vendor on the speakers and get a replacement and all is good.

Talked with vendor sending them back (speakers).

I found the hog tunes tweeter manual. It stated the tweeters are compatiable with 2ohm-8ohm. Do I still need a crossover.

I talked with a vendor in Daytona during bike week he said I could hook them up and would not affect the amp..Im confused..

Just pissed I had to buy another set for the 500 mile ride to Daytona.

So anymore advice I will take..

this is good news. A lot of vendors will say tough luck, deal with the manufacturer.

no sir you do not need a crossover.

this is correct. It's all about the way a tweeter is designed. It will have little to no impact on the impedance/ohms the amps sees with the tweeters connected so unless it's some very specific tweeter, i never factor ohms of tweeter into the load the amp sees.

advice on what sir. Sounds to me like you've got it all wrapped up here. :-)
