I bought mine from Crutchfield; can't remember the speaker number but they are Polk Audio; perfect fit for the hole; thinking that I paid about $69

Default Outer fairing removal

While on the subject of getting in behind the fairing. Just bought a 08 FLHTP and I want to do the same and add speakers. Not having a manual yet can anyone give a detailed description of how to remove the outer fairing? Don't want to have a wreck trying to figure it out by trial and error.
Thanks and Merry Christmas to everyone.

Polk DB1001 tweeters are $53.89 with free shipping at Amazon. I picked up a pair to replace the aluminum tweeters in my Hogpod tweeter bar, hopefully I can get to it soon.

edit- didn't notice this was an old thread, nevermind.........!

not sure if the fairing removal is the same for the cop bikes as it is for a regular batwing fairing but.

1) get some rags or socks and cover your passing lamps completely if you have them.
2) take out 2 outer screws holding windshield trim
3) loosen but do not remove middle screw on windshield and remove windshield
4) just below and outward of the speaker on each side there are 2 black T27 screws there to take out
5) turn your forks to the right and left all the way and you will see 2 more T27 screws in between the forks
6) now go back and take out the 3rd windshield screw (left it in so fairing wouldn't go crashing forward or hit your passing lamps)

fairly easy to accomplish this..

Thanks UltraNutz. Appreciate the help. Sounds like you've been there and done that in regards to the guide light, which I have as well. Does the headlight stay put or does it come off with the fairing?

can't really say that I have but better safe than scratching the paint on your fairing. Once you take the last screw out, reach behind the fairing and squeeze the outsides of the headlight plug and pull it off and the headlight stays in the fairing.

Smile Not going to what to hear this!!!

Seen the HogTunes tweeters installed in empty guage slots and they do sound nice but I'm cheap. HOW CHEAP>>>>Really cheap. So i thought i'd try a different path. Bough some tweeters with built in crossover for $10 on EBAY. Installed them in the Guage Plug and then stuck them in the guage slot. Wired them up and HELL YEA...Sounded as good as the HogTunes. Been runing them for a year and no issues. Work great with the HogTunes 5.25 speakers. My system is 8ohm. Using the 5ohm HogTunes and 2ohm tweeters has not been an issue at all. On to my next CHEAPO project..See ya.
