2010 Ultra sound upgrade ..choices?
I am thinking of upgrading my sound system on my 2010 Ultra.
I have the HK system w Nav. Its OK but would love to hear better.
I would like to know the steps to take so I am not re-doing anything.
A good , Better, Best type of plan.
I am thinking of starting with replacing the speakers see how I like that.
I have Not heard Hawg Wired, or J&M's Rokker series.
How do these compare? Any others I should consider?
Price and discounts?
Thanks

I have the J&M Rokkers with the Bazooka 200.4 amp and I am extremely pleased with the result.
Not only can I hear my music at highway speeds, but if I turn it up everyone around me hears it too...
The music has reasonable fidelity and the bass sounds accecptible. (Taking into account I am on a motorcycle.)
Also the Rokkers are 100% waterproof, alway a handy thing on a motorcycle.

I also installed the full Rokker system on my 2011 Ultra .So far I'm pretty happy with the setup I just think I need some fine tuning of the amp to improve the sound some more . The Amp install is pretty straight forward the front speakers you need to watch out for a couple of things as in the bracket they use to support the fairing and speaker it's not that it's a hard install I feel the instructions could of been a little clearer . Other then that the next item on my list is a I-Pod interface I'm not using the HD one I found another company that also makes a plug and play system for $100.00 less which should be released in the next couple of weeks .

I concur with Dr V Twin. I have had the J&M 7.25 and 5.25 speaker setup (not the rokkers) for a while now running behind 2 no-name (road-rage) amps. it sounded good or so I thought. :-) I heard so much about the J&M 500 watt amp that I decided, what the hell and forked over the cash for it. Best decision I've made in a long time. Incredible sound would be an understatement.

Red Eagle,
Since your already have a 4-channel, 160W amp on your bike, I'd suggest you consider going with replacement speakers. In addition to the J&M speaker recommendations, you'll find a lot of very happy users of Hertz 6.5" speakers in the fairing which requires use of an adapter ring for installation since the OEM speakers in your bike are 5.25".
Also, you can replace the 5.25" OEM tour pak speakers with 6.5" speakers. Send a PM to cvoharley.com forum member TIF2 (Rich) and he can tell you what works. He's a good guy and the most knowledgeable guy I know when it comes to motorcycle audio. He has a 2011 CVO Street Glide that has been heavily modified for audio.
One thing to consider when buying speakers is their ohm rating. HD's speakers since '06 have been 2 ohm impedance, except for the '11 and '12 CVO Street Glide which use 1 ohm impedance. If you decide to change amps, Hawg-wired and Rockford Fosgate in-fairing amps are 4 ohm impedance which you would not be able to use with 2 ohm impedance speakers. You can easily use 4 ohm impedance speakers with your current amp's 2 ohm impedance; but, you can't go the other way, i.e. use speakers with a lower impedance than the amp's impedance.
Lastly, this audio forum is relatively new and gets far fewer views than the Touring forums where questions such as the ones you've posed are regularly posted. So, post your questions in the Touring forum for more views and more replies.
My recommendation to you would be to make the change in speakers. If that doesn't get you what you want, consider changing out the HK amp under your tour pak for one with more power or use that amp for the rear speakers and add an amp inside the fairing for the fairing speakers. In addition to the J&M 500W amp (125W per channel @ 2 ohm, 70W per channel @ 4 ohm), you can choose Rockford Fosgate's PBR300X4 (4 channels @ 75W per channel) which is what I have, or one of the Hawg-wired or Arc amps that are very popular.
Good luck with your research.

update I bought Hog Tunes
Ok I pulled the trigger
I bought the Hog Tunes set for CVO Ultra's
Six Speakers, 2 ch amp, and the Hog Pod Tweeter.
I want to keep my functions of the HK radio ie AVC.
I want a reliable setup with a good warrenty (20 years speakers).
I want to be able to play for hours touring, gas up and go again.
I should have it in sometime next week!
I'll let you know what I think of it.
