I'm talking about the speaker change. From 2 ohm to 4 ohm. Most aftermarket 6.5 speakers are 4 ohm. If his upgraded unit has relatively the same output as the factory HK unit, then the output is cut in half trying to drive 4 ohm speakers. Has nothing to do with the head unit. Its a speaker deal. And you may wanna do some research before you call the factory head unit "2 ohm". Speakers are ohm rated not head units. If his head unit output isn't paired with an amp then the upgraded 6.5 Kenwood speakers wont have the volume the op is looking for. Good on the op going with an amp, hopefully that fixes him up.

Correct. Because a 2 ohm speaker has more volume with no amp. Simple set up and works fine from HD. But, with the addition of better 6.5 speakers in the 4 ohm design an amp will be required to power them properly. The 4 ohm speaker basically cuts your output in half compared to a 2 ohm, no matter what deck powers them.
Very Happy now! Installed a 100x4 amp and rear speakers. I would have liked to have got the Fosgate speaker kit, but picked this Boss kit up for 180.00, which was a killer deal.

That fuse in the fairing should be 18” or less from the battery. Doesn’t do any good up there.
You can better power from the amp if you use OFC power and ground. Not CCA
I am also a bit disappointed in the Rockford Fosgate HDHU.9813RG, but at least I got mine for only $300.
I hadn't planned on adding an amp either, but that may be on the list some day.
As it is now, I almost never even turn the radio on.
It's not loud enough to hear over the exhaust and the modular helmet anyway, so I just stream to the Cardo.
I'd really like to be able to use the radio as the source for the BT speakers in the helmet, but that doesn't seem to be possible.

I bought a brand new, unopened unit from a local source for $300. No warranty, but it's just a radio.
I've seen a BT system that mounts in place of the air temp gauge, but that's probably not what you're looking for. IIRC, it's a Hogtunes product.
Most any current aftermarket radio can utilize the factory hand controls with an adapter module.
Obviously, going to an aftermarket radio kills the CB function.
I also believe that if you want to retain the rear volume controls found on the speaker pod, you need to stick to the factory head unit, which again limits other capabilities such as not having BT.
What would be ideal is a head unit that can send audio to a BT headset, (instead of only being able to stream from a phone) but other than buying a 2024, I don't know if that's possible.
You can probably get away with just swapping your cable end connections (flip the wire 180°) and that would put the fuse under the seat.
Not sure I would have put that fuse in the fairing anyway, given the effort required to get to it.
I've even recommended to a buddy that he replace the fuse on his radio (that seems to blow out at-will) with one of these so that he can access it from underneath the fairing if required.

Found a Boss Elite radio that I'm considering. It is an exact fit and retains the handle bar functions. I'll be forced to remove the CB. Boss Elite
