Default Lower fairing speaker pods, 6.5 vs 8

I have a 2015 ultra and I'm looking at adding speakers to my lower fairings. So I've run across 2 kits ,metra 6.5 pods and fairing factory 8 " pods. The metra kits, from what I can tell, still allow you to use the vents and the "control slider handle" to open and close the lower vents. Now, the FF 8" pods, in not sure. I got two different answers from fairing factory, one guy says "No, speaker is to big and you cannot use the factory vents anymore". Another rep says " yes, with modifications to speaker pod" .Can someone clear this up? I'm sure someone out there is using these kits. And does one kit have an advantage over the other?

What does the rest of your system consist of?

What kind of speakers are you planning on putting the lowers?

What amp power/channels will have available?

An 15 ultra has wet heads. I have not seen 8 inch lowers for a wet head.

My 15 ultra classic does not have "wet heads". I have standard lower with manually operated vents

Unless you have some special Ultra your 15 definitely has Wet heads. Mine did and as far as I know all Ultras 14 and newer have wet heads even my 16 CVO. Guess I should speicfy If you have an FLHTK you have wet heads FLHTCU did not!

MY bike is a FLHTCU , ultra classic , not a limited. Air cooled heads, not water cooled. I know the difference between the two types . My lowers have small " gloveboxes" on each side, with PIA doors that are hard to open . That's why I'm looking at converting to speakers pods .

On my UC I did 6.5 AdvanBlack color matched lowers. The fit and finish was ok. I had to cut holes in them to get Mmats in them but it sounded great.

When adding speakers to lowers don't expect alot of bass/lower midbass from them as there isn't alot of air space that is required required for those frequencies.

Also the speakers you choose I would suggest a higher deciable speaker because of location being farther away from the listening area.

For what it is worth to the others that posted you can get an 8 inch speaker in a wethead lower. It takes some imagination and determination but it can be done.

No there isn't a company mass producing the 8 inch lower wethead pods they will have to be custom made.

Not that the OP needs wethead 8" lowers, I do however have a set of custom made lowers that accommodate an 8. They are complete with fans, radiator and cooling bottle.
