First it depends on where you are going to put the dsp and how much room you have. Second it depends on how many channels you need. A good budget dsp is the dayton 408 but it is larger than others and can have ground noise when running thru rca connectors. The dsi-3 is a 12 channel dsp if you need that many yet it is larger too. HKI mini is very small but can only be tuned thru an app off a phone or Ipad. I have run all 3 of these. I have not run the cicada dsp but again it is larger and can be a bit hard to fit in the fairing if you have multiple amps there or have a whim under the hood. I have heard so-so reviews on the cicada as it has boot issues to the computer. Same thing with an arc psm. the rockford dsr is hard to tune and is only good for 10K or lower frequencies. I was one of the last guys to finally use a dsp and will tell you that they are one of the best additions to ever have on a motor cycle setup and I will not run any setup without one now. Although I have not seen/tuned the new hertz s-8, it is small, has pig tail connections and has damn good reviews.

So it depends on how many channels in and out you need and the space you have available.

I am not an expert having only installed one system. American Hard Bag recommended the DSR1. I found it easy to install and fit under the fairing. They shipped it setup for my system. Then walked me through the setup over the phone to make sure all was correct and show me the basics. Yesterday I called them back and Jesse showed me how to turn the horns down slightly as they were a little bright. This was all done through an app on my iPad which connects to the DSR via Bluetooth. Very simple and easy. Based on a lot of YouTube channels I have watched I feel it is one of the best options.

I use a dsr1 and couldn’t be happier. Easy to install and setup. Crossover output is 20hz-20khz, not 10khz stated above. The high cutoff on bandpass is a 10khz max. Only thing going to play above the 10khz is a tweeter, just put it on highpass with a low cutoff. I have mine set to 2500hz for the horns and most times have it cut off at 10khz. Even that makes the ears ring for an hr after riding. Good thing about the dsr1 is the app. Can stop off somewhere and mess with the settings and on you go.

I’m no expert, but, I’ve heard that you can flash your boom head unit, with a Rockford Fosgate flash, and not need DSP’s. If that is true, then that may be the best option. The RF flash, is supposed to flatten the horrible Harley EQ settings.
