Default Sound system '06 Street Glide

I just bought an '06 Street Glide and I'm basically going to use it to commute to work as well as takin the ol' lady for a putt on weekends. It has the stock system in it and want to upgrade. I was looking at Rockford Fosgate but want some opinions on some other types of system. Going to get an amp too. Bluetooth and Sirius compatable as well as the ability to run regular radio. About $1.5k budget.
Also, are saddlebag speakers worth it or maybe lower fairing speakers? Thanks.

I would stay away from the Rockford system. Their radio replacement is really nice, expensive, but nice. Their speakers are not worth it and amps are spendy.

Adding saddle bag lid speakers is a lot of money, for not a lot of sound going down the highway.

Lowers will give you the most for riding.

You will need to decide first if you will
be running 2 or 4 speakers. Makes a difference on amp choice.

If you plan on listening to FM, your amp selection will
be significantly decreased due to most amps decrease FM signal. Most guys with upgraded systems, stream music. It’s much better quality than FM and XM.

Thanks for the reply. I guess bluetooth would work just as well come to think of it. I'm old school. Was brought up adding Jensen Tri axials to aftermarket AM/FM radios! Lol. So would a Rockford radio do with another set of speakers? Probably getting the fairing speskers first then adding the lowers later. What kind of amp?

I have an outdated system for todays standards in my ‘13 model, but it still suits my needs. I have the same fairing as you which isn’t common these days.. The locals here in the audio section have moved on past this setup, but it’s in your budget.

Single Din Sony deck with 4 or 5v pre-outs
Stinger 700/4 amp
MMATS 6.5 coax’s up top
PRV 6.5’s in the lowers

Thanks. Thats what I was looking for. Yeah, I guess as technology improves there are people that go along with it. Music aint the reason why I started riding 40 yrs ago on my iron Sportster but it sure does make it more enjoyable now with the aches and pains! Lol. Thanks for the reply. I'll do some research on the system you got and hopefully can get something that suits my needs.

I had a 4 Mmats PA601.4cx system (fairing and lowers). with the stinger SPX700/4 Amp. I was loud and clear @ 90 MPH. The Stinger will keep FM and fit on top of a single din under the fairing.

Good info here. Subscribed to see what you end up deciding on.

I'm pretty much in the same boat with the bone stock system on my '07 Electra.

Been doing a lot of research looking for "best bang for the buck" ways to upgrade mine too.
(and I'm on an even tighter budget than you for the audio)

I've removed the Tour Pack, which means I lost the rear speakers too.
I ordered and received some 6x9 bag lids (on Amazon for $58 bucks ) that actually seem pretty nice. (But I haven't installed them yet).
Still deciding on what speakers and system I'm going with... (and I don't have front lowers either).

One of the things that I want to make sure of is that the handlebar audio controls still function properly... So I realize that drastically reduces my options.

I'll be very interested to see what suggestions others here may have.

GREAT Forum btw !
Cheers !

With most after market stereos sony kenwood the handlebar controls will retain your controls. very easy and not expensive.
