Look up aggressive audio on FB. He's always got the best prices on amps and speakers.

As far as paint matching, you can always buy a cut in kit for your stock lids like the boss or others. Cheaper than new lids. I think there is one company making kits with no speakers for like 300 bucks.

Juice on the forums here mentioned them to me a while back. He is more the expert than me. I remember him telling me they are exceptionally stout when it comes to be being waterproof. I recall him suggesting you could eat a bowl of soup out of those speakers. As well, he said for a 6x9, they have a nice bass punch....for a 6x9.

I'm really happy with my db drive 6x9s, but if I couldn't use these, I'd look at DDs or maybe ground zeros....but i'm also always open to suggestions

 

no, a fellow rider at work used them to upgrade his road glide and he was very happy. Said, he saved $500 and the sound was better. Weighing all options, I usually over think and research these things.

 

I gotta agree with Fireball Jack. The Rockford stuff is mediocre at best. It wasn't a bad option maybe 5 years ago, but there is so much better stuff out there these days. Rockford just hasn't kept up to date.
Their amps are expensive, and still only 100 watts per channel.
After multiple amp and speaker upgrades. Rockford being one of them, I have come to the conclusion that you can never have too much power, lol. The average guy might get by on 125 watts per channel, but 150 watts to the fairing is just about right.
175 watts to lowers is usually enough.
Lids need all the help they can get, just due to the fact they can easily get lost in the wind, and I wouldn't do any less than 200 watts here, but plan on more if you can afford it.
The SD 1200.4 suggested is 4 x 198 watts at 4 ohms. Definitely a great place to start. If you decide down the road you want more, just add a SD 800.4 bridged to the lids, and use the extra channels off the 1200.4 for a set of lowers.

Bluesman speaks the truth. Most people say the system was only $2,000 and not happy with it. When reality is they could have spent hundreds less and had a much better sounding much louder system. That was expandable in the future. But it is hard to bash something after you dropped almost 2K in it. But most will say the Rockford fosgate system is adequate. Until you blow a speaker and you got to buy a $350 pair of very subpar replacement speakers

 

If I was going to build a budget system right now two speakers I would use an SD 800.4 bridge to two GZ 6.5 coaxials in the fairing. If I was going to do fairing and lowers or fairing and lid, it would be an SD 1200.

 

I love the information Bluesman and Fireball. its like the more research I do the more confuse I become. It seems that Saddlebags speakers are great if your in a parking lot but adds min value while riding. I am still open but I have to omit that I was leaning towards RF but have changed my mind.

 

I have Mmat 6x9's in the lids. While it is no competition bike it sounds good for a daily ride. I can hear them until 45--50.
