I have lost two sets in about 6 months. First set could not handle the LPF Crossover setting it was specified to run within and I was very generous on the inside of the parameters. That pair lasted about 14 hours of use and the left one went first. The second set made it to Sturgis and back and completely died. On the second set I changed the settings in the DSP as well to flatten the frequency curve, flashed the head unit to Rockford curve, and overall spent a couple hours trying to tune it to a good spot to sound decent and to survive. It was a bummer. Also, I am running a Soundigital EVOX 800.4 I now have a set of Aquatic AV Ultra 6.5 360W with tweeters instead of horns. They only sound "acceptable"

Worth every penny....maybe you can get a discount on 2 sets.

I've installed 1 good pair. Another set looks like shix and are shot after getting 300w and crossed at 85 with DSP. Had another pair that would put amp into protect mode at about 150 watts. Just got a bike and one of the GZ in lowers is completely destroyed and they are running off of 2 channels of a JL MX500/4. They are just like their amps: some good, some bad.
had 1 set warrantied now 1 of them has crapped the bed. funny its been the left side lower each time that have been cutting in and out. I purchased the fairing set before the demand started so could be qc as i haven't had any issues with them.I love mine and I know they pound but they seem to be NFL. lol

Ive had no problems with my setup, 800.4 evox bridged to GZCF 6.5. Crossover is at 100hz and putting about 280-300 watts to them. They are very loud and sound good. I cant complain at all.

What is this "black coil"? From a consumer standpoint I'm wondering why a customer should need to hack up a new set of speakers to make them reliable.

Have you played up and down on the hz scale on LPF, HPF? I found they could fool you into thinking they could handle more than they really could and still sound good.........for a while. I believe that is a big part of the problem. They are too good at handling power and frequency at first, so we are more lax than we should be on the tuning side and it ends up killing them. At least I have heard the same thoughts here a few times and at a couple rallies this year.

This brings up a good point. I wonder how many are dying at 150 watts vs. 300 watts. I am only pushing 150 into mine but I have the crossover set at the factory spec of 50Hz.

I agree. I had first set at about 160w and second set I lowered to around 140w and they died quicker. But I did have crossover in a few different settings and played with DSP much more so I don't know for sure what killed them. Likely I was responsible for part or all of it the second time so I did not ask for a warranty, I just chucked them.
