Just went through all of this. Thought I was buying special pods fron eglidegoodies.com but they were just the cheap Mutazu 6.5" pods at twice the price. I ended up using the PRV 6MB250-NDY-4. They bolt right in and are really loud. They definitly took the burden off the 6x9's in my lids.

As good as the pro coaxes have gotten I would seek those out first. Hell DD Audio has a new one out that has a really damn low profile basket. Mmats w small spacer. GZ Yellow can fit if ur very creative. Even that ARC coax has a pretty slim profile.
It's never a bad idea to try and get full range audio from each speaker hole as long as the speaker can keep up w ur entire system.

I also think DD is coming out with something that will be in line with the AW6.5 which really was a damn nice SQ speaker. No clue on when that will ever show up.
