Anyone tried this Kenwood here:
Kenwood KMR-D772BT

It has the black letters on white background and 5v preouts.

I looked at a couple of those marine Kenwood HU's but passed on them for only having rear USB and AUX inputs. None in the front of the unit, which makes sense as it's a marine version.

On my sled I ran my USB connectors down the steering neck so they are out of the way. The one I use for my phone I ran out the clutch side of the ignition switch cover and tied it to the handlebar. That way it's right where my phone mounts and I don't have a wire laying across the tank.

I did something similar on my Street Glide- ran a USB cable behind my fairing and out the clutch side, where I ziptied it (sorry for the glare!). A much cleaner look than having the USB cable flopping across the front of the fairing.

One thing I do wish is more aftermarket head units had both front and rear USB ports for data and power. A lot of them only have one or the other. I like leaving my iPod plugged up all the time and it would be nice to have another port handy for other devices.

To that end I just bought a good dual outlet 12v USB charger that had each port on its own wire and wired it into the daytime running light plug on the headlight harness (those are not used on US bikes).

Same here, which is why I prefer the rear USB, as I can use it with a splash cover over the face plate

update from my end.......

my beloved 998 took a **** a coupe weeks back on a road trip. My RF rep talked me into trying the PMX-HD9813. he was able to work it for me so that i could afford to pay for it. Install was straightforward. Plug and Play, no adapters/boxes required to work with hand controls. Screen Visibility is awesome, so far functions are very nice, i kind of miss the mute function(i haven't found it yet). has 1 usb and 1 1/8 aux input, 4v preouts, ad get this, front, rear AND sub rca outs!!
i just did a major reconfiguration so it's hard to tell if the improvement quality is entirely due to the head unit or the new amp(Mmats HiFi6150) but I like it so far. the other selling point for me was 2 year warranty and all of the vibration, dust and water ratings, all very necessary with an HD motorcycle!! will update again after some more seat time, damn rain down here!!!

I am running the KMR D772 BT after running several 998's. Good sturdy unit, the display is very good in daylight (I use white back ground with black letters) the 5v RCA's is nice. I use the CD player and I have a USB cord that is plugged into the rear of the unit, and then I drilled and mounted it in one of the dummy switch indentations on the accessory switch panel bar that the ignition switch is mounted on. I would definitely recommend this unit!
