Default Is a new BOOM worth it?

I couldn't find the exact answer to this question in a search. Is a new boom HU worth swapping? Say a '19 or '20 model for my '14. Are there any great improvements with sound, nav and general operation?

I can't answer about swapping, but going from a 14 streetglide to a 20 ultra, the difference is quite a bit. The nav seems much more intuitive. I did however remove the boom speakers in favor of others and an amp. I have no complaints so far.

The biggest differences I see is speed. I don't have one, but my buddy I ride with had one in his previous bike....19 RG CVO. Both of us cranked our bikes up at the same time....I was going to lead the trip, but my boom was taking so long to boot up AND then to find the route. We got tired of waiting, so he took the lead.

I'd say boot time and route calculation for the new boom HU is about 70% faster.

Not to mention the UI is much cleaner and intuitive.

They're not cheap, that's the only drawback. I'd love to upgrade mine, but I don't see 2 grand being worth it to me. I've been watching to see if I can catch a take off from someone replacing with aftermarket hu. Maybe I'll get lucky.

I swapped the GT head unit for the new GTS with Soundz module and added WHIM to my 2018 Road Glide Special.

To me, it was “worth it”. The biggest differences:
  1. Load Speed
  2. Brighter screen I can see much better
  3. CarPlay with ability to talk and text while riding (this was the driver for me)
  4. Weather resistant vs going with a Sony 5000 or 7000

Amen to that. If it’s important they will call back and then you pull over to address the call or text

On the rare occasion that my wife can head out with me and we leave the littles (2 and 5) with a sitter I want to be able to answer if the sitter needs to call. When I’m out riding by myself and my wife needs me to grab something on the way home I like getting that message and being able to help. And having the ability to make and receive work calls allows me to ride to work more often.

Like I said, worth it to me. I fully understand it if isn’t worth it to anyone else. It is definitely an expensive endeavor.

I'll keep my eye open for a deal. I may do it. Thanks for comments!
