Boom GTS upgrade kit for 18 and down
So over on the M8 forum, apparently harley has an upgrade kit so you can get the new HU to work in 18 and down bikes. Looks like the wiring harness is 50 bucks on new castle harley, but cant seem to find it on hd.com.

Not sure if anyone else has heard about this yet, so thought id pass it along.
Now who has a Boom GTS used for sale?? lol

teedoff ,,,,
I heard about it from a customer this afternoon ,,,, he said the HD motor company was offering it nationwide thru the Harley dealer network ,,,,,
hope it is NOT the harness that Soundz has been offering ,,,,,,

it’s not a harness at all, it’s just the new GTS radio, new part number with anA after it, the wire they say you need is the USB cord, best guess now is any old unit will still need the sounds adapter but the new units are plug and play, but do require a dealer flash to set up. There is one number for the bat **** and one for the fixed fairing bikes

I might be wrong but I don't think it's a new radio vs the old radio that came out in the 19s. I thought what I read was the adapter would make it possible, perhaps with some reprogramming of the ecm, to install a gts radio in a 18 and down bike. Might be totally wrong, but that's why i posted here in hopes I could get more clarification.

This is only conjecture on my part, but I believe the new upgrade gts kit is a different radio, by virtue of software.
If you take a 2019 SG radio and install in a 16, it won't boot up. It will look for a vin that's applicable. The upgrade kit radio doesn't. Another programming difference is the tpms.
The non included cable is nothing more than a usb cable that lands in the media cubby like all Boom. My guess is the radio end is possibly different than 18 down.

oh agreed it's not worth the cost, which is why I was hoping, and posted in the wtb forum, I could get a used take off gts. If they would work with the hd "kit" and one could pick one up for 5 or 6 hundred, then yeah that might be worth it. As dsm said, that may not be the case and you'd have to purchase a "newer" gts unit for it to work with 18 and down bikes.
