Boom GTS upgrade kit for 18 and down
#61
I just buttoned up my 2017 RGS after installing the GTS and WHIM. I bought the new USB cable because I believed Harley, there's 48 bucks gone. Because it a '17, 45 bucks more for the WHIM harness. I did buy the radio when it was on sale so that was better than a poke in the eye.
Ready to take it to the dealer for flashing, but the rain says not till Monday.

My radio failed the first day............It's being replaced under warranty BECAUSE I used all the recommended parts on my 2017 RGS. They specifically asked about the USB cable.

If your looking at a used one, that is a different story. Production radios (ones that come/came in the 2019 and 2020) will not work on the older bikes yet. These are the radios with out the A at the end of the part number. I spoke to Corporate Harley regarding this and they said in the next software update on the website, it will make those radios compatible also. They said it should be coming out any day now, that was three weeks ago. With that said, when they do release the update, you will have to download it off the website and update the radio via the usb cable. The caviot though, is the radio will need to be in a 2019 or newer bike to do the update. Once complete, you can put it in any 2014 or newer bike. Hope this helps.

If you want it to work now, then yes, you need the part number with an A at the end, as well as the USB cable.

I installed the new Boom GTS on my 2018 Limited. The install was fairly easy... took about 45 min from start to finish. I didn't buy the USB suggested by Harley's website, instead I used the original one that came with the bike (it worked fine). Initially (before flashing the radio at Harley) the radio worked with poor quality and had a beeping sound coming out of the speakers every few seconds. Everything worked well after the radio was flashed, except I'm not getting the oil pressure reading, instead it just shows ok. I already had the WHIM installed, so car play is not only fast but awesome. Overall, I'm very satisfied with the upgrade, the GTS is noticeably faster than the GT and user friendly. Setting up my iPhone and Sena 20s was a breeze.

I have read through the various posts but I cannot find a clear answer to this question: I have a 2014 FLHTK and if I purchased a GTS 76000829A, do I need to get a dealer flash? I have an Android phone and no Sirius. Thanks and I apologize if I missed the answer somewhere.

And to be flashed, wont it still need to be installed in a 2019 and up bike first? Then once flashed, it can be installed in your bike. If I'm remembering correctly.
