After an amp install, you are holding your max volume back, before distortion. (Typically 3/4 volume)

If riding at 40mph at 3/4 volume and you accelerate to 70mph, your are now going past your amp installed max volume. Essentially overdriving the speakers and introducing distortion.

Son of a b*tch. Installed new amp, same thing, won't turn on. Remote wire for amp shows zero volts when head unit is off, check. Shows 1.5 volts when I turn it on, so I figured it was working ok.

But since the new amp won't turn on either, I run a jumper from the headlight plug. Turn key to on, voila amp turns on, 12.8 volts on jumper. So my problem was never the amp, it was the remote signal from the head unit, low voltage.

I remember on one of my old setups I was getting a whining noise from the speakers when using the headlight as a amp turn on signal. Will have to try it out.

Personally I would use cigarette lighter as remote power source rather than headlight. If a circuit fails, not inline fuse, which would you rather lose while riding at night headlight or cigarette lighter and instruments (tac, speedo)?

My bad. I must have lost interest by the time the details were presented. Short attention span.

HU and Headlight are bad ideas.

Good luck!!

Actually both my wife and I both are. So the cigarette lighter gets lots of use. If it blows I guess we will have to chain smoke. Actually I used the spare auxiliary connection that Rushmores have.
