I thought dirty bird has some 8” lids for newer styles that fit the 8.8’s. But yes, they are not cheap. But....one and done! You won’t be disappointed!

The 14-up dirty bird lids won’t fit 880s. For those years voodoo is the only option that I know of and they suck. Although, I did see some cheap fiberglass lids from bagger bags or something but heard a lot of bad reviews.

Yep, painted and on. Not perfect but good enough for now. They will probably come off over winter and reshape some of the body lines better.

I found some cheap 8.8 lids for Rushmore models on eBay but they require sanding, priming and painting. Not that that can't be done, but it gets pricey. I keep seeing that the great response to the 8.8 JL is because of its boat style long throw. Would this be similar to other long throw boat style speakers like the Kicker or Hertz? I can find some 8" lids with no tweeter holes pretty easily.

I've heard of a couple guys getting the cheap Ebay 8.8 lids and not having to do a ton of work to get them done. I can't stress this enough: there is no other 8" that will compare to the JL 8.8. They are truly in a league of their own FOR a full range/coax and marine lid speaker. I think the only thing that may be close are the wet sounds, but I don't think they would keep up with the 8.8's. Just the pure size of the 8.8 should be an indicator of their performance.

I have no doubt that it's the best speaker for my scenario. The wife was less than thrilled when I even brought it up yesterday. I'm not sure how this one is going to work out.

She is going to pick up her new truck tomorrow. 2019 Chevy LT trail boss with a custom Tiffany Package. I think that's my time to push it.
