HK update CD???

I don't have a disc but I can tell you what I had to do to get it to work.
With a lot of older CD players you have to burn discs at a very slow speed in order for them to be readable. I tried image burn on the lowest speed setting and my head unit still would not read them. I finally dug around and found an old Windows XP laptop that had Roxio Easy CD Creator on it. When I used that program on the lowest burn speed the head unit finally read the disc and updated.
So I guess if you can find someone that has an ancient computer with a CD burner that might do the trick. Also it may be helpful to use a CDR instead of a CD-RW.
Another thought is if the software asks you if you want to "close" the disc maybe try that.

Yes, I used CDR disks. Burned it on 8x. Closed and finished the burn. Still will not read it.
Maybe try to think of friends or relatives that may have older computers still in service. The only other thing I can think of is if you have one of those CD lens cleaners maybe run that through the player for a couple of passes. If the laser lens in the player is a little dusty it can cause reading issues.

In researching another issue I found posts of other folks saying they also had to use an older computer with an older CD burner that ran at slower speed to get a legible disc.

Thanks, hell I had to go to two friends to find one that had a burner. No one uses them anymore.
I had them add preamp outputs and a rear aux input to my head unit to make upgrading my system easier. I wish I had gotten them to change the back lighting from red to white while they had it. I have seen that done and it makes it much easier to read at night.
