Hertz MPX 165.3 considered an "oversized" speaker?
vender description: For 1996 - 2013 Touring Models with a batwing fairings / Made specifically for 5.25" to 6.5" speakers - does not fit oversized 6.5" or 6.75" speakers
edit: 165.3 not 165.2
I guess I'm here because I'm pissed and looking for validation! Had a problem installing 5.25" to 6.5" front fairing speaker adapters. Wouldn't fit without serious modification to the lower portion of the adapter, running interference with the inner fairing. Finally getting the things to physically fit - Finally received the speakers to find out the 6.5" MPX Millie's won't fit, not even close. Surround won't fit inside the opening of the adapter. IS THERE REALLY SUCH A THING AS AN "OVERSIZED 6.5" SPEAKER"? - really -
Shouldn't this stuff be bolt on? I'll have to dig in the recycling bin in the AM to get the bag the adapters came in to verify the manufacture and part number -

After reviewing many posts on this subject, I now realize where this is going! Good thing I don't live within "ballistic" range of those marketing guru's.
Any knowledge out there of an adapter that utilizes all four mounting points to the inner fairing, as opposed to three ……. that will fit an "oversized" 6.5" speaker as opposed to standard size 6.5 incher, of coarse - ?

you need the Metra 82-9601 adpater, there is not an adapter that uses all 4 screws, however with a little tweeking you can sitll use the stock steel speaker brace/bracket. that adapter should get your speakers in for you. i have been running lots of heavy speakers and there is not an issue with only the 3 screws holding the adapter in place.
report back, please.
m
the adpter is stated to mount 6 1/2 to 6 3/4 speakers just for reference, but that adpater will fit most of the popular speakers. PRV and Mmats included.

If you use a screw in the lower inside hole on each of those adapters, you will run that screw clean through your inner fairing. Get the 82-9601 adapter and you'll have no issues mounting those speakers.
