J&M Lowers - Will anything else fit?

J&M Lowers - Will anything else fit?
My last thread dwindled away unanswered, so perhaps I need to get a little more focused. (I know any thread with J&M in the title scares everyone away.)
I got duped into buying the entire Rokker 6 speaker system for my 2006 CVO Ultra, and I'm in the process of starting over. I have the J&M lowers that now house the 7.25" Rokkers.
After weeks of reading, I'm thinking about swapping out the ARC/J&M 125.2 for a 600.4 or perhaps, a PN 4.1000D or CV B52 if I don't give away too much. The limits on adjustability with the BT4180 concerns me, but I hear it's a great amp. Using the stock HU, I get crappy FM reception, and always play CD/Ipod, so FM isn't a concern.
Anyway, with whatever 4 channel amp I end up with, I want to run new decent Coax's (Motos/Kappas?) in the fairing, and I was thinking PRV's in the lowers. However, again, that cutout is for 7.25". Has anyone successfully used the J&M lowers for something other than the Rokkers? I was actually hoping to hear from someone that was able to do some minor trimming to get 8" PRV 8MR500 NDY4 in there? If not, is there some kind of an adapter to go from 7.25 to 6.5? I'd like to avoid the cost of replacing the lowers if I can. I know in the fairing, I have to remove the J&M adaptors and go with Metra's. I will also be reusing the J&M shelf for the new amp. The Rokkers will go in the garbage where they belong.
That said, I'm no expert but looking at the spec on the 8" PRV vs the 6.5", is seems the 6.5" goes considerably higher and a bit lower as well? I would have thought the 8" would have shifted everything down? I wonder if the 8" would actually be a step up, or should I just focus on the 6.5"?
Ultimately, I wonder if this decent Coax for the fairing / PRV for lower end fill is the right way to go, or should I just go with a matched set of 4. The rear is running off the stock amp, and for now I'll just leave that alone. With my bag on the seat 1/2 the time, I can't hear anything out of it anyway, and I'm not interested in lids for now.
I'd like to keep the budget below $1,000 for the 4 front speakers and AMP, which I think should get be something that actually sounds a little better than stock.
Any guidance tips would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

you might be better off selling the pods and speakers together IF you can find someone that wants them. Then start over with regular pods and speakers.

i had a customer looking to sell me a set of those pods a few weeks ago. i was kinda strapped for cash at the time and he didn't want to sell me just the pods alone but, he did leave them with me for a bit. i got a couple of minutes to hold the PRV in one hand and the pod in the other and it did not look like it would be too hard to make it work. the grill would be the only thing i remember that make take some creativity. i wished that he would have separated them and let me have them, but thats the way it goes sometimes.
