The EQ curve of the stock head unit is all over the board. Without leveling or flattening that curve you run the risk of killing speakers and overdriving/clipping the amp.

Well I did adjust the gain and crossover according to the recommended settings per manual.

That has nothing to do with the EQ curve of the radio. You cannot run an aftermarket amp without a Line Leveler. Simple as that.
And if you think he's stressed out now, wait till this amp fries and see how he reacts.
