Default Weather proofing question

Shortly after purchasing my 2013 Street glide I upgraded the head unit, speakers, amp and added speakers in lowers, all but the head unit came from Biketronics. I am changing out the head unit again.

My question is this...in the install kit from Biketronics there is a vinyl sheet that covers the head unit and overhangs where the wires connect to. Is that vinyl necessary ( I am assuming it is) and where can I buy that elsewhere? The bike is apart and I would like to get it back together and ride without having to order it.

Thanks

I don't use it on mine. If the thought of rain getting in bothers you, cut up a large ziplock bag and tape it down on top of the HU.
