Default Intercom wiring questions

Ok,

First a bit of backstory.

I am installing a 2012 Harmon Kardon head unit into a 2000 Ultra Classic. I will be re-doing the 23 pin connector with a new 35 pin connector. All I am doing is replacing one connector with the other (I have the pinouts, its not that difficult for the "stuff" I need).

The question I have regards the headset wiring only, as the 7 pin plug shows a difference in the wiring functions between the two setups. (appears + and - polarities are switched). Now that said that the wiring is different, when I look up headsets for the bike, they show the same from about 1998 onwards to the new bikes. This goes for the cable between the bike connector and the headset as well.

Is there truly a difference between the bikes up to 2005, and the 2006 and newer ones, or am I worrying about a non-issue?

Scott I'm pretty certain it's only a polarity switch.
