Default Mp3gain question

I have a number of music files that I have had for years that came from different sources. Some ripped from CDs, some bought and downloaded, some pirated, and some given to me from other people that I have no idea where they originated. All different file extension to boot.
With that being said the volume is all over the place and is very annoying.

I have been reading up about Mp3 gain and Audacity. I downloaded Audacity and it won't do certain file extentions on my computer.
I downloaded Mp3 in and it seems to work. Now to my question.

From what I have been reading here it seems guys are going for somewhere around 93db.
When I load multiple tracks at 93db some tracks are showing clipping and some are not.
If I adjust each track individually to Max dbs without clipping, will the volume vary between each track being the different tracks are different dbs?
Or to keep the volumes close do I lower the dbs on all tracks untill clipping is gone?
I am new to this and need to be pointed in the right direction.

It's been awhile since I've messed with mp3gain.. I loaded up my entire playlist and set them all to 93 and ended up with 98% if my songs all the same volume level and the others were realllly loud.. Like piercing loud. I didn't really know wtf i was doing so your results may vary

This subject is like oil and seats and windshields
Everyone has an opinion

So here is mine
I am like you, lots of different sources and different levels on my library.
I ended up going with the standard 89 on all of my music
For me it seems to work best
The unmetered testing live on my bike between 89 and 93 and 96 lead me back to the 89
Just my 2 cents
If you take this approach

Set the limit to 89 and do every song at track level (constant gain)
Dont worry about clip gain or max , or any of that
Just do the songs in bunches, but use the track option
I did them one folder at a time, as all of my music is alphabetical order by artist in folders

No Biggie
Just different views is all
Lots of guys have luck running @93 or 94
But my music is all over the place
89 seems to work for me
Good luck and let us know how it turns out

Keep in mind the lower you set the db output level you drop the voltage to the amp which requires more gain to accommodate the lack of input voltage. Leads to more potential noise and distortion on amp side. Music is still dynamic and the clipping most of the time is not the same clipping as a square wave out of an amp. I advise 95db. Ymmv.
