So resetting the 998 solved your issue?
I'm getting kind of fed up with my 998 for this kinds of weird issues.

 

Actually my 998 (BNIB) had a freezing face issue. sent it back
So I am trying the Marine grade 318BT mechless

But yes for what ever reason once I reset the deck , the system plays louder.
I did notice prior that when the volume hit 30 it never got louder all the way up to 35. seemed to stay the same?

 

I'm on my second 998 in less than a year (around 10 month)
The first started having false contact issues with the detachable face plate like 4 months after I got it.
They replaced it with a new one.
This one have had several lockups episodes, where keeps playing, but doesn't respond to button presses and have to turn the bike off to make it full operational again.
Yesterday I stopped to put gas, did what I always do, which is turned the volume all the way down, and then power off, When I started the bike again the radio didn't want to turn on. Had to actually disconnect the power to make it work again (forgot about the reset botton).
These episodes and the fact that looses all the parameters when looses power are making me to consider to replace it with a different HU.
I don't use the CD, I don't use the Radio, I don't do any bluetooth, but just the rear USB input.
