Default How l mounted my BT30 tweeters

I was going to keep this on the down low but sometimes things just need to be shown. A few guys on here have been in the loop on what l was doing and they were great about keeping the secrets.

I scored a set of the all too popular DD Audio AW6.5's and a pair of BT30 tweeters right about the time they went on a national backorder. I went with the BT30 tweeters because of their supposed shallower mounting depth. I wanted to keep everything behind the HD stage 1 grilles that l have in my bike.

Once l got the tweeters l found them to be much deeper than the advertised specs when they are in the aluminum housings they come with. Time to get crafty.

I have the Biketronics speaker brackets and with their 7.1 pros, you get a bridge for the tweeter to mount on so l made a comparable bridge. It helps that l have access to the necessary equipment at work.

First thing was to design a bridge that will work and more importantly, give the clearance needed. We drew up a model in Solidworks and then printed one up on the 3D printer.

Once l had that l could do some test fitting. I popped for a set of 1/2" spacers from ebay to help set the woofer a little further away for added clearance.

With the raised bridge, the mesh dome on the tweeter would hit the back side of the grille in the fairing. I bought a set of the Hogtunes grilles which are dome shaped but l really wanted my HD grilles. Back to the drawaing board.

That's where the flat style came into fruition and it works perfectly. I really wanted the raised bridges because they looks so frickin cool but they wouldn't fit.

I had a set of the raised ones machined for the heck of it and here's the 4 of them fresh out of the cnc.

I machined a channel on the bottom side for the wire to run through. It's slightly undersized so that when the bridge is tightend down it lightly pinches the wire holding it from moving.

It was a lot of trial and error but l'm very happy with the results.

Sorry, but l won't be making any extras and the unused raised pieces are staying with me. 😀

That's like beyond next level stuff there. Really nice work. You should run a batch and sell them.

Would love to be able to get a set myself. Great R&D. The info alone is useful. Was wondering if it was possible so now at least I know that the woofers need to be spaced back to make it work.

That's some serious shix right there!!!!!! Awesome damn job!!!!!

U really do need to consider the production side of this!!!!! Very impressed!!!

Now if u could squeeze a set of horns into some of these u could also capture the growing market of those damn Yahoos too!!!!!
