Ok your gonna need to bypass the BT controller. Hook the black from the radio to a known ground and the yellow and red to 12v. This is all you need hooked up for the radio to turn on and function. I have a feeling your issues are going to be with the HU and this will help determine if that's the case.

Alright guys, thanks for the help! I plugged it straight to my battery and the HU blew it's fuse. I went to the local best buy and purchased a pioneer MVH-X580S. Even got it for almost $20 cheaper than the online price. I even added Geek patrol insurance since it will be vibrating in a Harley fairing. Connected wires, changed the preset on the module, connected cable for handlebar controls and pow! worked perfectly. I will be returning the kenwood to amazon and getting a refund. I'm pleased as punch that everything works now.
I can tell a big (not huge) gain in volume, clarity, function. i can even feel my footpegs vibrating when the volume is up. the handlebar controls work great. very happy with biketronics module.
if any of you guys are ever in WNC, i'll buy you a beer for your efforts.
