Default Budget priced 6x9 lid speaker thoughts

OK.. 1st off it's 0350 and I can't get back to sleep and I'm pondering 6x9 lid speakers. Certainly I'd consider the Pioneer 6900Pro's a budget speaker but here are two other thoughts. Looking at reviews, the Pioneer TS-6996R has positive results and has a street price of $65-90/pair. Certainly someone here may have listened to these and give some thoughts?

TS-A6996R general Features:
6 x 9" TS-A Series 5-way System
Power Handling:
Peak: 650 watts per pair / 325 watts each
RMS: 325 watts per pair / 162 watts each
Recommended Power Range: 50 - 162 watts RMS per channel
Multilayer Mica Matrix Cone
Elastic Polymer Surround
PI Cone Tweeter
Strontium Ferrite Tweeter Magnet
Crossover Frequency: 2600 Hz
Heat Resistant Voice Coil
4 ohms impedance
Ferrite magnet motor structure
Top-mount Depth: 3-3/8"
Cutout Dimensions: 8-3/4 x 6"
Frequency Response: 28 - 38,000 Hz
Sensitivity: 93dB

Second thought is a bit out of the box, using more of a midrange type speaker. A bit less SQ quality while stationary but more sound when going down the road at 70+ mph with all the associated noise with it. The Soundstream SP2.694 has a wider frequency response range than normal midrange drivers and would play loud to the rear, maybe without having to fade it as much. Again, thinking at speed versus stationary. Doubtful anyone has tried these but they have a street price of $95-$120/pair. Thoughts?

Soundstream SP2.694 general features:
6x9" 2-Way Pro Audio Series Midrange Driver
Power Handling:
Peak: 250 watts
RMS: 125 watts
Pressed paper cone
Reinforced Cloth Surround
1.75" horn loaded compression tweeter
Quick disconnect terminals
4 ohms impedance
Frequency Response: 150-20,000 Hz
Top-mount Depth: 3.50"
Sensitivity: 97dB

Troop, I have never heard those speakers, compared to the 6900's, but I have the 6900's because most guys seem to favor the TS6900's, for budget speakers and their word is good enough for me. Their are some real knowledgeable guys who have run and tested the 6900's, real life on their bikes.

Those Pioneers are good to go. Purchased a set couple years back. They are loud with good bass. That said. The Pro 6900's are better. 6x9's for me have always been about Bass unless you're in the competition circles. Frequency range on the soundstream speakers starts at 150hz. That tells me bass is pretty much nonexistent with those speakers. As you stated they probably do well on the highway rollin 80 mph!!

Here's a video with those Pioneers with Moto 602s. I've had the Pioneer Pros too, and would still lean towardsthe Pros.

Thanks for thoughts/input and video. Very helpful! My only lid speaker experience are with Kicker 11KS69 and Polk DB691's. I do have a line on a new pair of the TS-A6996R's for $50 so I'm thinking hard about those. Still...just...can't...shake the Soundstream midranges. Yeah, they certainly lack bass response, but at what speed/noise factors on the bike going down the road does bass response become a non factor? For $50, I am thinking WTH for the Pioneers. Being February in WI, I can ponder for a couple more months

If you go with the 5-way Pioneers here is a couple more videos of them with the same setup as the other video. It's just that the Pros get louder, but for $50 you can't go wrong with the 5-way.
