Default Adding speakers?

I am trying to get better sound quality on my 08 ultra without spending a ton of $. If I add lower fairing pods with aftermarket 6.5" speakers will I need to add an amp? I would also like to install aftermarket 5.25" speakers in the fairing. Anything I need to know? I am not looking to win any contests just a little better sound without the distortion I get from the OE fairing speakers.
thanks in advance.

Yes. An amp is a must have item. Also you want 6.5 speakers in your fairing and lowers.

NO 5.25's!!!

Without breaking the bank a good starter system is 2 sets of 6.5 infinity Kappa's and the Cerwin Vega B54 amp. You will need 6.5 adapter rings for the fairing and an 8 gauge wiring kit. You will also need lower fairing speaker pods that house 6.5 speakers.

Default thanks for the post

I guess "breaking the bank" is relative..lol. I appreciate the feedback. Youre still talking close to $1k. For that price (or close to it) i can take it to the dealer and let them have thier way..lol. I was hoping to stay under $700. Guess I will save my pennies and suck it up...lol. thanks.

Letting the dealer have their way with it is the worst possible route to take. It's your coin though.
Actually, the setup Gannicus is referring to could be done for around $500. Less than that if you search the Audio classifieds.

I agree.. Thats my last resort. And after some deeper research your plan may just work. When I did a quick search I found those speakers at $140. Thats for a pair, i thought that was each. Drops it to about $700 for the set up (if I dont search). More within my pay grade. Thanks for the advise.

Bates is spot on as usual! If you search hard enough you can find deals like this all day long.

If you look at the bottom of this link you'll see the amp and the same speakers + the speaker adapters for $305. So far less than $400 bucks.
