Double edged sword between the 2. If bag space makes no difference, then 2 8's or 10's in the bags with some horns will do some damage till 50-60 mph if fed right. Lids depending on which style can go from a light fill to a full rear stage. The end goal for what you want for a system is the major player. Always get the fairing figured first, then build the rear stage.

In bags = mainly parking lot up to possibly 20 mph.
In lids = zero to 80 mph depending on what u put in the lids.

Using a very broad brush here but think ur much better off focusing on the lids.

This!!! Do both. They both serve a purpose, and it will sound better. I wish I had your bike to work on.

Oh oh and don't use 6X9's.....use 8's.

I still use my bags to store riding gear. I need to figure out how much room I would lose with 8s.
I just dont know if i like the looks of the SBD twisted 8s for the 14 and up models.
Is there really enough air space in the bags to get the proper sound out of using 2 8s with each bag.

Yes plenty of airspace for two, even three! These are mids, not subs.

A buddy has speakers in the bag facing the wheel. I had Hogtune lids with 6x9's. One is parking lot, other is drivable. Cutting holes in the bag and losing space to me isn't worth it. My 2 cents worth.
