Boom Stage II speakers keep blowing
#21
Unfortunately there really aren't any options. If we're talking about Boom Stage II speakers anyway. The Boom Stage II is a 2 ohm, Bi-Amped system. Each speaker has separate connections for the woofer, and the mid-tweeter.
There are bi-amped speakers out there, Sony has a couple of pairs as well as others, but I've only found 4 ohm speakers. I tried a set of Sony's and they sounded pretty good, but it didn't seem like the power level was there with the 4 ohm speaker.
I'm kind of curious about something though - I have the Boom II fairing lower speakers and they are 4 ohm, yet they use the same Boom II amp that powers the fairing speakers, the tour pack speakers, and the saddlebag speakers (4 amps total). Would this mean the Boom II amp is capable of 2 or 4 ohm operation?

Since I first responded to this post I have found some answers to the boom 5x7 dilemma. RF does make a direct 5x7 replacement that will plug into the HD wire harness. After my buddy with a 17 cvo warranty ran out I replaced his lids with the ref tms57 and all is good. I tried to blow them and they are still running strong.

Interesting - with a 17 CVO he would have likely had Boom II speakers installed in the saddlebags, but I only see one connector on the Rockford Fosgate speaker mentioned (whether it's using the Harley plug in connector or just spade terminals). It doesn't look like these would really work with a Boom II setup since they have two connectors - one for the woofer and one for the mid/tweeter.
