I know it's not the best way to do it but isn't it the same as if you have a bridged 4 channel (mono)

I thought I'd seen some builds with 1 channel amps

 

most mono amps are not full range and peak around 500hz for frequency response. Second depending on input, how you configure it, you can get stereo output still bridging a 4 channel. Yes bridged is technically mono, but a whole different animal than a mono amp.
