Smoke from a speaker usually means burned out voice coil. If not while producing loud audio then is typically from strong DC offset like +12v.

To be honest, I could not follow the installation description. I have a nearly identical (non-marine) Kenwood in my truck and these have 4v preamp outs. With SS and Arc Audio amps, why didn't you use preamp output from Kenwood? It will be cleaner than the built-in amp output.

I was using the pre amp outs, I was trying to dial in the amp gain..after getting gains set, hooked speaker wires back up to amp, turned on power and then the magic smoke came out..I think something shorted in the amp, got a call in to manfacture
