Default Which Kenwood HU model to purchase.

I have installed the BT4180 and the BT 7.1 speakers a few months ago and now I have the bug.
I know to get the results that I am looking for, which is clearer, more robust and louder sound the next thing that I need to update is the HU. After that I want to install lowers with a set of speakers from BT and then I will turn my attention to the rear and try to gain more bass with 6x9 in the lids or a sub.

With that said which Kenwood HU would you recommend.

Kenwood KDC-BT958HD $197 free ship
Kenwood KDC-X898 $169 free ship
Kenwood KDC-X998 $239 plus ship
Kenwood KDC-X799 $250 plus ship

I am sure they all have there pros and cons.
What should I be looking for in a HU? I know I want to keep my hand controls so I will have to buy the adapter from BT. Will I need a mounting kit for any single din Kenwood HU?

Thanks for your advise

Rick

I would either get the x998 or some like the kmrd765bt. Personally the x998 has it all. The marine thing wont make much difference on a bike
( read the marine disclaimers). Mounting either the metra, or hawg wired, or biketronics. I like the hawg wired personally the best. Hit up LL247 at 77 customs for mounting and the marine unit or any non excelon unit. If you want the x998 Crutchfield will sell for 239 shipped( cant beat the warranty return service) but can be had for under $200 if you dig hard enough. The metra kit is well loved by many here. Steering adapter biketronics, hawg wired, scosche, and someone makes a pac something . Biketronics lifetime warranty is always a plus

I have the BT 7.1 speakers with stock HU. I have bought the Kenwood kmrd765bt Hu
BT retro kit with a BT 4180 amp, but have not had time to install them. I am planning to install tweeter up front and speakers in the lids and lowers later. Let me know your system turns out.

Considering the BT amp has no adjustments the 998x is the way to go.

BTW, what year & model bike are you upgrading?

Thanks everyone. I pulled the trigger and ordered the 998 for 189.00 shipped. Now I need to find the mounting kit and the handlebar control adapter.

This is being installed on a 2010 SG.

I know it's pricey, but I like my V-Twin Audio mount. You get the chassis adapter, handlebar control module, and a cover for the radio that works great. I like that I can remove the cover and store it in the saddlebag/tourpak when it's not raining. I think the whole system isn't bad when considering you'll spend $200-$250 for the chassis mount and handlebar control module, and you still haven't made your HU waterproof.

Expensive = Hawg Wired/ Biketronics

Cheap = Metra 99-9600/Axxess AWSC-1

They all do the same thing and work flawlessly!!
