Actually aside from cost, there are a number of differences among the various interface units such as:

Programming, ability to compensate for harness loss, Automatic Volume Control, Mute, Where it is made, Warranty, etc.

Be careful on what unit you get for the control
As stated there are cheap options.

I have read alot of guys complaining about losing the AVC

I for one, will get the Biktronics kit just for that reason.
I like the AVC function.

One key feature I like about the BT unit is the function that allows advancing to the next folder/album using the handlebar controls.

I try pushing all my customer to the BT kit, better quality and never had any issues with it. If cost is a major factor, I've been using PAC or Scosche kits over the Metra do to a number of buggy issues with the ASWC1.

I know it's late and the 998 was the purchase, but just throwing out there the KMR-D765BT is my new fav and been using it a lot. Less expensive than the 998 too...

seems like most of the 998 features are avail on the 765 - not sure, but missing the L/HPF option and some extra pro dial-in stuff.
in general for avg joe (no offense here!) for a mere 100 bucks less than the 998, to me a no-brainer (esp. with the 13-band EQ and FLAC support)

I still REALLY like my 998! (I even believe I started the 998 here LOL).

I'm curious, is the lack of L/HPF a deal breaker? I'm interested in the KMR-D765BT because of the FLAC support. Pro's and Con's to having the L/HPF on the head unit other than having to take the fairing off to adjust on the amp.

The 765 has separate front and rear hpf.

Looking at the manual for the 765, the only Audio Setting I missing from the 998x are Speaker Location's and Car Type. Both of no value in an open air environment.

With the BT amp the HPF settings are a must. With an adjustable amp I don't know weather you would use the amp setting or the HU settings. I'm sure someone who knows will chime in.

Head unit as more slope and more precise adjustment. Amp in full pass.
