Default Kenwood 998 installed in RGS using BT kit

So I finally got all the goods. Install using the BT kit was super simple. Couldn't be happier with the quality. My one complaint and I don't know if it's the kenwood or the BT install kit that's causing the issue but my Bluetooth range is awful. I mean AWFUL! If my phone is beyond the fairing at all it starts to lose connection. Now I understand that car radios have a short range but I feel that the BT mounting plate has to be blocking the signal somewhat. Gonna have to do some more testing to be sure.

First reaction.....this is what I knew it could sound like. Way more volume and way more bass. I've had my fair share of systems in my cars and I knew these 602's were capable of so much more.

Disclaimer:

In this video I had only done minor tuning in my garage and was only running a preset eq setting. Additionally the storage units were reflecting the highs and makes it sound way more tinny than it really is. This was the first time I had played this song so the freq is deff off. I definitely need to retune it, likely at my friends farm where nothing will effect the sound.

Anyway here's the teaser...

Thoughts, comments, and criticism is welcome. Thanks for looking.

Sound good but once you get the 998 dialed in it will sound better.
To get you started give these manual EQ setting a try starting on page 18 in the manual. It helps to print page 18-21 out to keep notes.

Page 18
Set Drive Equalizer to OFF
Set Preset Equalizer to USER
Adjust Gains to each Band:
Band1 = 3
Band2 = 2
Band3 = 2
Band4 = 1
Band5 = 0
Band6 = 0
Band7 = 0
Band8 = 0
Band9 = 0
Band10 = 1
Band11 = 2
Band12 = 3
Band13 = 3

Page 19
Q Factor: 1.50
Bass EXT: OFF

Pro Setup
DSP Set: Through

Sound enhancements
Supreme: ON
Space Enhancer: OFF
Sound Elevation: MIDDLE
Bass Boost: OFF
Loudness: OFF
Balance & Fade 0

Car type: SUV

Page 20
Speaker type

Front speaker location: Door
Size: Medium
FC: 70
Slope: -18

EQ should look like this.

Bertk,
I owe you a beer. Been running the 998 for awhile and was never really that happy. Too shrill in the midrange. Of course I was too lazy to read the manual and mess with the unit until I read your recommendations. Tried it out today, the richness and clarity of the unit really came out. Thanks man, feels like a free audio upgrade.

Bertk,
Not trying to hijack the thread but I'm wondering if these settings on the 998 would be a good place to start on my set up of 998, BT 2180 and TitanII's ?

Thanks

Neil-
Your setup is the same as mine. Worked for me. Give it shot, what's there to lose?

First of all I just wanted to say I had a lot of help from a couple of guys here in coming up with these settings. Glad to see your sound has improved. These settings where based on the BT amp and Focal 165KRC speakers. The setting will differ with each amp/speaker combo. What amp and speakers do you have installed?
