Default Which after market radio install kit?

I am close to pulling the trigger on replacing the stock HU on my 2009 Ultra. I see that both Biketronics and Hawg-Wired sell an installation kit that allows me to keep the hand controls. Is one kit better than the other and is either of them any easier to install than the other?

Thanks

NM

I've used both and both are very nice. You might consider taking a look at the Metra 99-9600 install kit and the Metra Axxess ASWC-1 for the steering wheel controls. Much cheaper and works like a charm. You will have to dremel the 9600 a little to make it fit the HU but it's worth it for the cost savings. The installation sticky is at the top of the forum.

The hawg wired kit with the anodized bezel is the most well built kit out there. The metra, biketronics, etc are all also good kits that are affordable but the hawg wired is by far the best built.

The Metra is an option I had never heard of and I certainly like the price point. I am however a bit concerned about wiring this stuff up. Do they all require about the same amount of wiring changes? (I hate wiring and don't want to cut into my stock harness if at all possible)

Going to read the sticky now, as maybe that makes things clearer

Thanks

One side plugs directly into the factory plug (no splicing) and the other side will have your head units wiring ran in. Very simple. All the interface modules are basically the same. The mounting kits are where you have the biggest difference. All kits besides the hawg wired are just plastic adapters and a cover to fill the gap. The hawg wired is all metal, and uses the cage and rear mounting screw for a more stable mount.

I have only used the Hawg Wired, cannot speak for the others. I just installed a Sony on my 2010 RGC and used their install kit and controls interface. This was the easiest part of the install. Fit like a glove, great instructions, everything worked as advertised the first time I turned it on. I highly recommend.

I did the metra and axxis set up, didn't have to dremel anything tho.. Just took it all out last week to put a new HU in and it's still workin great
