Default PA RZ4-3000D vs SS PN4-1000D

I just replaced my 3000D with a 1000D. I was long under the assumption that they were the same amp, and indeed they are built alike with the power, speaker, and RCA's all in the same place. I set the gains on the Soundstream as they were on the Power Acoustik. I was disappointed at the volume, and increased the gain to around 3 o'clock to approach what I had before. I have no hard evidence to back it up, but to my ear the Power Acoustik sounded better. If I were to do it over I would go with the 3000D instead. Just on observation if anyone out there is on the fence about which way to go.

Hmm I've had both of those amps as well but I change my speakers so much I can't remember. They both sound good! What speakers are you running these days John?

Biketronics 7.1 non pro's in the fairing, Biketronics 6.5's in the lowers, and Pioneer TS 6902's in the lids.

That's odd man. I've had both those amps and both showed distortion at the same gain level just shy of 12 o'clock. I did't notice any difference in sound or volume. Maybe try resetting your radio? check your rca plugs, how's your battery, etc.

I had the impression with the 4.520 and the PA equivalent the PA was a but more dynamic as well... but again long time ago when I was testing

Follow Haze his suggestions. 12 to 3 o'clock is WAY too much...
set everything flat, use 1khz (93? Db if you have normalized your mp3s with mp3gain!!!!!!) and dial in.
stay a bit shy of the 150W (use 140W as max for your DDM calc for 4 ohm) and 240W ish for the 2 ohm channels.
better safe than "boom' sorry

No changes to any settings on the head unit, simply removed the PA and replaced it with the SS. I typically ran the volume at 25 to 30 using the PA. With the gains on the SS set at what the PA was using I had to run it at 40 for an equivalent volume.

Did you confirm that the switch settings were set to flat on the amp? It may sound dumb but gotta ask.
And that everything is in phase.
