Just some back round I started with a SS pn2.350 and 62.11 speakers on the stock head unit. next up was a sony dsx 310. Awesome head unit that Gan recommended and it was cheap. Round 2 consisted of swapping out the SS for a vega b2. Sounded way better than the SS amp why I don't know. The latest upgrade was swapping out Hertz HCX 165 for the 62.11's so far this system sounds awesome to my ears! Gain is set to 34 volts per Gan's math and the head unit is on explode with HP set at 100. Pretty pleased FOR NOW! not sure what I am going to do with the SS amp and Kappa"s? Maybe head light buckets on the crash bar over the winter or at the very least I have a back up set of speakers. Thanks to Gan and everybody else who contributes here!

 

I'm running the HCX165s and the B2 and I agree, a real nice setup!

 

Glad your happy. You sure he didn't mean 24 volts. 34 volts does not sound correct. I would get back with Gan on that output # unless you are running those in series 4 ohm bridged.

 

Looks like you both have a good combo going there.

I thought the same thing. Gan used two channels for the calculation, 300w.

 

Ok. That's what my concern . So you checked output bridged then. That sounds correct hence my comment unless 4 ohm bridged.

 

The speakers are rated at 200 peak. Wouldn't you want to use that number for calculating?

 

In Wils calculation P = RMS Output. 300 watts. R = The ohms amp will see by channel.

(P) = 300w x (R) (R) = 4 Ohms. 300w x 4 ohms = 1200. SQRT of 1200 = 34.64

The B2 is 150 watts RMS x 2

I would think 150 watts would only give you one channel. That would be (P) = 600. sqrt of 600 would be 24.4948

I guess the ultimate question would be how does it sound wils? Are you getting any distortion. I could be wrong on my math but that's my interpretation and it's always worked for me. . lol. Correct me if I'm wrong. lord knows I don't want to give guys bad info. The DMM has always be a little deceptive to me. That's why I set my gains by ear.
